Power Institute of Hotel Administration Inc.

I’ve finished my 10-days training at PIHA. I could say that it’s a reliable training center for all those who are hoping to get a job abroad and even on cruise ships. I’ve seen some post cards sent by some of their former students that are now working abroad, and on board. One of my classmates is already scheduled to leave this July to be a bar waitress in a cruise ship. But she’s still required to take a training at PIHA to have some knowledge about the position she applied for. Some have already been pulled out from the training for an interview to an international employment agency. Some are getting hired for a luxury yacht (NO EXPERIENCE, NO OJT), and they’re getting paid €1000 per month. Most of us are targeting a Sea-Based job, so we are all required to get SOLAS. After that, we’ll now be asked to go to a specific hotel/restaurant to have our 280hours of on-the-job training. Once done, we’ll now be referred for employment to whatever position or job we want to apply for. There are a lot of PIHA students that are getting hired faster than others because they have a good reputation in this industry. But of course, you still have to study everything that’s been taught during the training, and do everything to pass the employment process. By the way, there is a training fee of Php3,800 (which includes 10days of lecture and 280hrs of OJT) and if you’re looking to get a sea-based job, you should prepare Php5,515 for your SOLAS. If you want to take another 280hrs of OJT in another field, there’s an additional fee of Php500.

there is no placement fee since it’s just a training center. you’ll be dealing with this thing once you’ve start applying for whatever agency you may want to apply. I actually got a job now. I’ll be leaving to france on the last week of january. I just started all these by completing a training at PIHA, then everything else follows.. I spent around Php30,000 for all my documents and maritime trainings..

yes I agree with you. but if you really want to get a job abroad or onboard, you have to work on it by yourself.. there are lots of agencies here in manila, you can try to apply even without a referal from PIHA. just make sure you already have some trainings like SOLAS, PSCRB, crowd and crisis mgt, and anti-piracy..

it’s not a scam. and it’s not an agency. just to make it clear, this is a training center that will help you get a job after your training by referring you to some hiring agencies around the city.

I’m interested with that but would you mine if i ask how much will be the cost if i undergo the piha training? if I finish the training is there’s a possibility that you will get a job? and for how long you will wait just to get a job? I’m sorry to ask because I’m just making sure to tell you honestly I’m not from manila I’m from Mindanao and it’s really hard for me to risk but if that is really true i go for it . tnx..

if you’re from Mindanao, then I wouldn’t recommend this training center for you. better if you apply directly to agencies nlng..

sorry for a very late reply.. :( if you already have solas, then there’s no need for you to take another training since solas takes 5yrs before expiring.

yes its not an agency its just a training center na magaling lang sa una kapag kukuha ng bayad, pero after that, yes irerefer ka nila pero BAHALA KA NA SA BUHAY MO KUNG MATANGGAP KA, hindi ka na nila ipriprioritize, dahil mas kumikita nga naman sila sa mga bagong marerecruit, kung tutuusin, natanggap ka hindi dahil sa kanila, dahil sa iyo mismo, kaya kung ako sa inyo, ibang training center ang puntahan ninyo, ung matutulungan talaga kau at hindi dededmahin kapag nakuha na ang bayad sa inyo!

yes, I agree with you. at first, I thought PIHA was really helpful.. but after a couple of months, while I was on the process of walking into agencies giving them PIHA’s referal, I realized that PIHA is not that of a big help at all.. :(

you have to attend a series of trainings like basic safety training, proficiency in survival crafts and rescue boats, crowd mgt, crisis mgt, ship security training, anti-piracy training, and C.O.C. from tesda..

Hi Vicky.. I’m not working for PIHA. I was one of their students before. Just making a blog about them. It doesn’t matter if you want to work seabased or landbased, you’ll be having your OJT in Hotels/Restaurant. And after that, they’ll be giving you certificates of course, as well as referral letters.
